China: development of a law on transplantation of human organs
“It is time for China to legislate on transplantation of human organs,” Huang said at a seminar, adding that despite significant technological advances in this area, there are still problems.
A committee responsible for drafting this legislation will soon be set up and define the technical standards for institutions that perform the operations of transplant organs, while a national network will also be established to improve the transparency of donor ‘bodies, the minister said.
In 2004, China had registered about 2 600 operations liver transplantation and nearly 6 000 operations of kidney transplant, which earned him 2nd place in the world behind the U.S. in terms of number operations. |
